Background

Following cloudbursts and intense rainfall in Nagaland’s upper catchments during 18–20 July 2026, major rivers overflowed, causing severe flooding across seven districts of Assam. More than 800,000 people have been affected, with 1,78,837 among the worst impacted and 15,060 hectares of crops submerged. Thousands of families continue to face damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods, unsafe water sources and limited access to essential services. Humanitarian priorities are now shifting from rescue operations to sustained relief and early recovery support.
