ChildFund’s fight against COVID-19 in India
Since March 2020, the country has been battling the ever-mutating COVID-19 virus. The pandemic has wreaked havoc on the Indian healthcare system, largely affecting the disadvantaged and marginalized groups. The COVID-19 crisis has now become more than just a health crisis; we are faced with increased poverty, internal migration, and loss of livelihood for millions. ChildFund has been working to respond to these challenges in 15 Indian states, since April 2020.
Fighting the 2nd COVID-19 wave, Getting Ready for the 3rd
Since April 2021, responding to the 2nd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, ChildFund is equipping government healthcare centers with essential medical equipment and supplies such as Oxygen Concentrator and masks, Bipap Machine, Glucometer, etc. to help them serve as COVID Care centers. We are also providing frontline workers with PPE and essential medical kits and training ASHA workers so that they can serve patients better.
We are supporting marginalized communities with food, hygiene, and psychosocial support and improving the affordability and accessibility of the COVID -19 vaccination. ChildFund will also continue supporting livelihood restoration and ensure food security for marginalized families that have been economically affected by the pandemic.
According to the scientific community, children and adolescents may be vulnerable in a potential 3rd wave of COVID-19. Therefore, ChildFund is setting up child-friendly COVID care centers and providing appropriate medical equipment to Urban Pediatric COVID treatment centers. Additionally, we are working with medical professionals to establish children-appropriate COVID care protocols. We are drawing up action plans with the existing community groups and systems to manage and safeguard the well-being of COVID-19 affected children.
To encourage more people to get vaccinated and follow COVID-appropriate behaviors, ChildFund is conducting innovative communication campaigns for community-level awareness around COVID-19 disease and vaccines, prevention and management, myths and misconceptions, with the support of local administrations.
With more than 500 people on the ground, ChildFund is working to reach at least 10 million people through its overall COVID-19 response. We are also ensuring that 1 million people, including children, have access to vaccination drives across 15 states.
Reaching 1.5 million people during the 1st COVID-19 wave
During the 1st COVID-19 wave, ChildFund supported 1.5 million people, with relief material, livelihood recovery opportunities, psychosocial support, necessary medical aid, and timely updates on government announcements related to COVID-19 and scientific information for prevention from the disease.
We are thankful for the support of our partners, funders, and individuals who have helped the most marginalized people in India. But as you know, the need is enormous and resources limited.
Therefore, we need more support to keep this fight going. Your contribution can help millions of children, their families, and communities stay safe and healthy during this pandemic. You can click here to donate and save lives!
